NOTE: If you hold a Commercial Driver License OR are 79 years of age or older, all transactions must be completed in person at a Texas Driver License office.
Age 18 and over
You may renew your Texas Driver License or Identification Card up to one year prior to the current expiration date. Texas does not have a grace period to extend driving privileges beyond the expiration date. The following options are available to renew:

Once we receive your out-of-state renewal packet, your request will take 45 days to process. To expedite your application, you may utilize an overnight mailing service; however, this will only expedite the initial receipt of your paperwork. This time frame may vary for out-of-country applicants. Please follow directions carefully. The most common reason for a returned packet is incomplete paperwork, so you should verify the completeness of your paperwork prior to mailing.
