Knowledge tests are only available in English and Spanish. Applicants must be able to understand road signs written in English to pass the test(s).
Due to a limited number of Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) who are bilingual, DPS cannot guarantee driving tests will be available in Spanish at every driver license office. If a Spanish-speaking CSR is available, then the driving test may be given in Spanish.
An applicant may bring someone to translate, but the translator may only help the applicant communicate with the CSR before and after the knowledge or driving test is given. Translators are not allowed to help the applicant during the tests. The CSR will use hand signals and other non-verbal cues during the driving test for applicants who do not speak English. These non-verbal cues can be explained with the help of the translator before the test.
Applicants who are hearing impaired may bring someone with them to translate or they may request DPS to provide a certified ASL interpreter. To request an ASL interpreter, please contact your local driver license office at least four business days before your visit.
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, DPS will provide reasonable accommodations for all requests.
