Law Enforcement Support

The Law Enforcement Support Division (LESD) is comprised of five main bureaus to include the Crime Lab, Crime Records, Communications, Technical Forensic Unit and Field Support. LESD supports law enforcement agencies and citizens of Texas by providing them accurate, timely and responsive services that include biometric identification, access to criminal justice and emergency information, as well as technical assistance for LESD programs.

Crime Laboratory
The Crime Laboratory Service assists law enforcement agencies by analyzing evidence from criminal cases, reporting findings, and testifying to those findings in criminal trials. Some assistance is also provided in collection of evidence from crime scenes. The Crime Lab is comprised of thirteen labs throughout the state of Texas.

Crime Records
The Crime Records Service operates and maintains statewide information systems that provide vital criminal justice information to authorized criminal and non-criminal justice users in the performance of their duties at the time it is needed and in usable format.

Public Safety Communications
The Public Safety Communications Bureau provides communication services to Department personnel and disseminates emergency information to the Citizens of Texas. The Bureau supports the communications and technical assistance needs of first responders throughout the State of Texas and provides leadership in the planning and implementation of voice, data, and video interoperability. The Bureau is comprised of 32 Communications facilities and 9 Wireless Communications radio shops strategically located throughout the State to provide essential services.

Technical Forensic Unit
The Technical Forensic Unit provides advanced technical assistance and support of investigative equipment to the Department's Criminal Investigation Agents. Currently, this unit is supported from personnel within the Public Safety Communications Bureau.

Field Support Unit
The Field Support Unit provides technical and installation support of law enforcement equipment to all Department personnel across the State. This unit will coordinate across all units within the Public Safety Communications Bureau directing requests for service to the proper location and personnel.
