Communications in Action
Personnel in all levels of our Communications Service are actively involved in many different incidents and activities that happen throughout the State of Texas. Job assignments are numerous and varied.
- Routine daily radio traffic, pursuits, man hunts, task forces, field training and radio interoperability exercises
- Communication with Texas Rangers, DPS Aircraft, SWAT and Dive Teams
- Communication with other law enforcement and state agencies, including the Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, and the Texas Forest Service and Civil Air Patrol
- Annual Mardi Gras and spring break operations; nuclear and homeland security exercises, and on-going security surveillance near border stations and ports of entry
- Special assistance during the Queen Isabella Causeway collapse, the Border Governor's Conference in Austin, the Space Shuttle crash in 2005, and the Economic Summit in Houston
- Deployment during Hurricanes Rita, Katrina, Dolly, Gustav and Ike
- Support during the FLDS Standoff in San Angelo in 2008
- Participation in training as Recruits of the DPS Academy prepare to become DPS Troopers
