Apportioned Registration

International Registration Plan (IRP) – for vehicles used in two or more jurisdictions that allocate or proportionally register vehicles and is used for the transportation of persons for hire; or designed or used for the transportation of property and:

  1. has two axles and a gross vehicle weight or registered gross vehicle weight in excess of 26,000 pounds; or
  2. has three or more axles, regardless of weight; or
  3. is used in combination, when the weight of such combination exceeds 26,000 pounds gross vehicle weight.

Combination Registration

Only one plate is issued. A truck or truck tractor with a gross weight of more than 10,000 pounds that is used in combination with a semitrailer having a gross weight in excess of six thousand (6,000) pounds must be registered with a combination plate for a gross weight equal to the combined gross weight of all vehicles in the combination.

A vehicle with a "COMBINATION" plate may pull a semitrailer with either a "TOKEN TRAILER" or a " TRAILER" license plate. However, a vehicle with a "TRUCK" license plate may not tow a semitrailer with a "TOKEN TRAILER" license plate.

If a "TOKEN TRAILER" is being operated in conjunction with an over axle/over gross permit (1547 permit), it must pay an additional $15.00 registration fee in order for the permit to be valid for the trailer.


Machinery Registration

All machinery type vehicles, except farm tractors and implements of husbandry, when operated over any public highway, will be required to display a current registration plate or a "MACHINERY" license plate.

Cost of these plates is $5.00 per year.

This includes machinery used exclusively for the purpose of drilling water wells or construction machinery that is not designed to transport persons or property on a public highway.

A vehicle with a "MACHINERY" license plate is exempt from the state inspection requirements.
