Post-Storm Preparedness: When Applying For Assistance

Not all weather disasters result in enough damage to be federally declared disasters. Still, it is good to be prepared with the proper information in the event a federal disaster declaration is issued and you wish to apply for assistance. In that event, homeowners and renters may be asked to start the process by registering with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Before applying, officials recommend having the following information available:

Disaster assistance may include grants to help pay for temporary housing, home repair and other serious disaster-related expenses not covered by insurance or other sources.

The registration number is 1-800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 1-800-462-7585 for the speech and hearing impaired, or click on the FEMA website at www.disasterassistance.gov.
