The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved an emergency declaration for Texas in association with Hurricane Gustav. The declaration allows local communities to seek financial assistance through FEMA’s Public Assistance Program.
The Public Assistance Program* is a reimbursement program which provides, in this case, funding on a 75 percent basis to jurisdictions that have incurred eligible costs as a result of this declared disaster.
FEMA has made the following type of assistance available for eligible applicants: emergency protective measures. Emergency protective measures are the activities undertaken by applicants before, during, and after a disaster to save lives, protect public health and safety, and prevent damage to public and private property.
* "Public Assistance" means assistance to state and local governments, not individuals.
