September is National Preparedness Month and the tenth anniversary of 9/11. Our nation has set aside this month not just to remember the tragedy but to reinforce the need for all of us to be prepared for disasters and emergencies.

ETN WRISTBANDS AVAILABLE FOR USE IN TRAINING

Since the inception of the Emergency Tracking Network (ETN), one of the primary requests from Emergency Management Coordinators and other users across the state is to be able to use actual wristbands for training and exercises. Chief W. Nim Kidd and the ETN Advisory Group have made reusable ETN training bands a high priority.

THE ROLE OF JOINT ASSISTANCE CENTERS IN DISASTERS

A Joint Assistance Center (JAC) offers direct resources and services to disaster survivors and assists local jurisdictions in expediting the recovery process. This is done by bringing together local, county and state agencies along with voluntary disaster relief organizations and faith-based partners.

TEXAS TASK FORCE 1 CANINES ASSIST JOPLIN

Specially trained Texas canines were deployed to help the people of Joplin, MO following the EF-5 tornado that killed more than 125 people earlier this year. Texas Task Force 1 (TX-TF 1) provided three canine search teams with two search team managers. The team had offered assistance to Missouri and other states affected by recent severe weather and tornadoes.
