MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF
Severe Weather Awareness Week in Texas is March 3-9, 2013. The goal of this event is not only to educate new residents and generations about the dangers of Texas weather, but also to remind our residents to update their emergency plans, double check emergency supply kits and to be prepared for tornadoes, floods, hail, straight-line windstorms and other potentially dangerous events.
TEXAS CITY DISASTER
The Texas City disaster was the deadliest industrial accident in U.S. history. The incident took place on April 16, 1947, and began with a mid-morning fire on board the French-registered vessel SS Grandcamp which was docked in the Port of Texas City.
TEXAS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE
The 2013 Texas Emergency Management Conference was held last week at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center in San Antonio, where the emergency management community gathered to discuss best practices and lessons learned in emergency management.
