September is National Preparedness Month. Our nation has set aside this month not just to remember the challenges we, as a nation, have overcome but to reinforce the need for all of us to be prepared for disasters and emergencies.
STATE OF TEXAS EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE REGISTRY (STEAR)
On March 15th the Texas Division of Emergency Management introduced the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR). Under development for the last 2 years, this registry provides local and state governments and their response partners with valuable information pertaining to the needs of citizens within their communities.
TEXAS EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND STATE OPERATIONS CENTER HISTORY PART I
Prior to 1950, disaster relief and recovery in Texas was essentially left up to local jurisdictions. But, after a series of major disasters, including the 1947 Texas City explosion, it became apparent that disaster preparedness, response, mitigation and recovery needed a central organization to support the efforts of local governments.
