AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) today announced the reopening of the North Lamar Driver License Office in Austin. The office, which closed temporarily in April, has undergone a major renovation project, which included completely revamping the interior of the building and implementing technology upgrades to improve efficiency and customer service.
The office will now utilize a new queuing system – the same system currently used at the DPS mega centers – that allows customers to remotely secure a spot in line without going to the office. Customers can virtually enter the line via cell phone, online or using a land line. The system also offers customers interactive options to make adjustments to their place in line – for instance, if they are running late, they can push themselves back in line. Walk-in customers can use the new self-service check-in kiosks and have the option of returning later, closer to their appointment time, while communicating with the DPS office by text or phone call.
Renovations inside the building include two added workstations, for a total of 14, all new modular furnishings, and a redesigned floor plan.
The Austin North Lamar Office is located at 6121 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78752. The office will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the exception of Tuesdays when the office is open until 6 p.m.
The office was closed in April after a break-in resulted in extensive damage to the interior of the building and equipment; and DPS took the opportunity to make significant improvements to the office.
