Before You Go…
Be sure you have all of the required documents.
(When using the ‘Get in Line Online’ option, you must be physically present in the office prior to the posted closing time.)

   Renew or Replace Texas DL/ID Card

See if you can skip the trip and renew online!

To renew in person, you need:

  1. A completed application (this form is also available at the driver license office)
  2. Your current (or expired within two years) Texas DL/ID card*

*If you do not have a current Texas DL/ID card we also accept other documents.

NOTE: All documents must be original or certified copies. We are unable to accept photocopies.

Ready to go? 

   First-Time Texas DL/ID Card or Permit

You need:

  1. A completed application (this form is also available at the driver license office)
  2. Social security card
  3. Documents to verify your identity (i.e. birth certificate and insurance policy)
  4. U.S. Citizenship or lawful presence documents (i.e. birth certificate)
  5. Two documents from different sources showing your name and residential address to verify Texas residency (i.e. a utility bill and insurance card)
  6. Texas registration and insurance policy for all vehicles registered in your name (driver license applicants)
  7. Certificate of Completion for a driver education course (driver license applicants under 25 years of age)

   Change Address or Name

To change your ADDRESS in person, you need:

  1. A completed application (this form is also available at the driver license office)
  2. Your current (or expired within two years) Texas DL/ID card*

*If you do not have a current Texas DL/ID card we also accept other documents.

Ready to go? 

To change your NAME, you need one of the following documents:

  1. Marriage license
  2. Divorce decree
  3. Certified court order
  4. Amended birth certificate
  5. Foreign marriage license (in English)
  6. Foreign divorce decree (in English)
  7. Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship
