Drug smugglers work to recover the floating marijuana after they drove their stolen pick-up truck into the Rio Grande River in Hidalgo County.

Texas Highway Patrol seized 4,400 pounds of marijuana last October in Willacy County on U.S. 77. It is not unusual for Highway Patrol to find smugglers transporting drugs inside truck tractor trailers.

Loads of illegal drugs, such as this seizure in Willacy County, are distributed throughout the state and nation and ultimately sold to dealers.
