The Texas Department of Public Safety selected Hughes LLC to provide the next generation of broadband satellite connectivity for the TLETS community. This new system provides multiple advantages over PES, including:

• 200-400% increase in bandwidth
• Uses 87% less power ($520 annual cost savings)
• Is 80% smaller (takes up less shelf space)
• Supports two separate agencies running TCP/IP
• Supports one Legacy SNA connection
• Dial backup modem integrated into base unit
• Supports prioritization of TLETS traffic on the network

In the coming months, satellite system installers will be contacting TLETS agencies to schedule a conversion from the PES system to the new HN7700 system. The installer will contact the agency again two days prior to his arrival confirming the conversion date.

During this conversion the indoor satellite unit, coaxial antenna cables, and a component on the antenna will be replaced. This conversion should take no more than a couple of hours to complete and the installer will remain onsite until the agency reestablishes communication with TLETS. All agencies are encouraged to begin the CJIS Security Packet review process as soon as possible, for migration to the new TCP/IP TLETS application.
